Why should we read Upanishads?

Disciples used to sit near their Guru and gain knowledge. The scriptures that were later written down based on this knowledge are called the Upanishads. Many Upanishads were composed in India.

These texts were also studied by Dara Shikoh, the elder brother of Aurangzeb, and the German philosopher Schopenhauer, who described them as “the most beneficial books in the world.” What is so special about these scriptures, and why should everyone read the Upanishads?
