A Divine Experience of the Presence of Shiva and Shakti
The festival of Mahashivratri is a celebration of the union between the devotee and the Divine. When observed in the presence of the Master, this holy occasion allows one to witness the sacred confluence of Shiva and Shakti. On this day, the entire cosmos is permeated with the highest spiritual energies. The divine grace of Shiva and Shakti showers upon all.
Before the main day of Mahashivratri at Anand Dham, one lakh and twenty five thousand Parthiv Shivlingas are prepared. These sacred Shivlingas are crafted from the holy soil gathered from the banks of River Narmada, which is believed to have originated from the sweat of Lord Shiva.
The Shivlingas made from this divine soil are considered extraordinarily beneficial and miraculous. Devotees, under the guidance of young Rishis, prepare these sacred Parthiv Shivlingas themselves. Once created, they are placed near the sacred Pashupatinath Shiv Temple and beneath the revered Banyan tree within the Dham premises.
Special Programs on Maha Shivratri
On the auspicious day of Mahashivratri, a divine Rudrabhishek is performed on all one lakh and twenty five thousand Parthiv Shivlingas. This ancient Hindu ritual is performed while chanting continuous Vedic mantras, and the Shivlingas are bathed with ghee, milk, honey, water, belpatra leaves, and other sacred substances.
Rudra who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva himself, is one such deity whose form may appear fierce and powerful, yet He is the most easily pleased when called upon for the welfare and upliftment of the world. The scriptures prescribe the performance of Maha Yagya to invoke His blessings and grace.
