Kartika Shukla Paksha (Prabodhini Ekadashi)
Prabodhini Ekadashi, also known as Dev Uthani Ekadashi or Dev Jagaran Ekadashi, marks the sacred occasion when Lord Vishnu awakens from His four-month yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) that began on Devshayani Ekadashi. According to the Puranas, after resting for four months, the deities awaken on this day and resume their divine responsibilities of protecting the universe.
Legend narrates that a devoted king named Prabodh observed fasting, worship, and charity on this auspicious Ekadashi with complete faith. As a result, his kingdom flourished, his family lived in harmony, and purity filled his mind and heart.
Observing this vrat destroys sins and bestows long life, wealth, prosperity, family happiness, spiritual growth, and liberation (moksha). This Ekadashi is considered highly meritorious for religious, divine, and social welfare.
Prabodhini Ekadashi (Dev Uthani Ekadashi) is observed every year on the Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartika. It symbolizes the awakening of Lord Vishnu after Chaturmas, and the sacred Tulsi–Shaligram Vivah is also performed on this day.
