Vaishakh Shukla Paksha (Mohini Ekadashi)

The fast of Mohini Ekadashi is believed to remove illusion (moha), sins, and mental confusion. According to the Mahabharata, during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the gods and demons began fighting over the nectar of immortality. At that moment, Lord Vishnu assumed the enchanting form of Mohini, distributed the nectar to the gods, and deluded the demons. In remembrance of this divine play, this Ekadashi is known as Mohini Ekadashi.

 

By observing this vrat, the seeker’s mental unrest, greed, attachment, anger, and tamasic tendencies are destroyed. It brings peace, clarity of intellect, and positivity to the mind. This fast is considered highly meritorious and is believed to grant freedom from diseases, long life, family stability, good fortune, and fulfillment of desires.

 

Mohini Ekadashi is observed during the Shukla Paksha of the Vaishakh month (April–May).
