Summer of Giving: Creative Ways to Teach Kids the Joy of Generosity

Let children learn empathy, compassion, and the importance of helping others.

“Nurture not just your children’s minds, but also their hearts.”
-His Holiness Sudhanshu Ji Maharaj

Summer vacations are about to begin. The time is perfect for getting engaged in activities that are fun and refreshing. The vacation also offers a chance to instill the virtue of generosity in children. With ample free time and a break from academic routines, it’s an ideal season to engage young minds in acts of kindness and social service.

Here’s how you can make this summer a beautiful experience for your child:

Organise a Family Donation Drive

Encourage your child to sort through their toys, books, and clothes to identify items they no longer use. Together, you can donate these to shelter homes or organisations supporting underprivileged children. This activity not only de-clutters your home but also teaches children the importance of sharing and helping those in need.

Teach them Empathy

Vishwa Jagriti Mission’s (VJM) Gyandeep Vidyalaya in Faridabad provides free education, mid-day meals, and other facilities to underprivileged children. Visit the school once with your children. Let them understand how some children are not blessed with privileges.

Tell them how difficult it is for some children to continue education, yet they face challenges, study, and win in life just due to the support of those who care.

Sponsor a Girl’s Education

Education is a powerful tool for women’s empowerment. VJM’s Kanya Atmanirbhar Abhiyan initiative focuses on educating and training girls from underprivileged backgrounds.

By sponsoring a girl’s education, your family can directly contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty. Discuss the importance of education and gender equality with your children and involve them in your donation efforts for Kanya Atmanirbhar Abhiyan.

Because when you do good for the needy, your children also learn the same.

Volunteer Together

Participating in volunteer activities as a family is a nice way to build strong family bonds.

Whether it’s cleaning up your neighbourhood, teaching marginalised kids, or providing relief to the needy from the scorching heat.

During the summer season, volunteer and join VJM’s social initiatives like:

  • Bhandara services
  • Free juice, food, and water bottles for hardworking labourers and for those who have to spend time outside under the sun
  • Tree plantation activities

Such activities also provide real-world experiences that can shape their values and perspectives. By involving your child in these initiatives, you not only teach them generosity but also expose them to the challenges faced by others. It develops a sense of gratitude and social responsibility in them, helping them become responsible citizens.

So, this summer vacation, show your children the joy of generosity.

Engage them with VJM’s creative ways of making a difference for the children of God.

Let them learn empathy, compassion, and the importance of helping others.

This summer, nurture not just your children’s minds, but also their hearts.

Have a joyous summer vacation!
