Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha (Nirjala Ekadashi)
Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Bhimaseni Ekadashi and is regarded as the greatest and most powerful of all Ekadashis. According to scriptures, Bhimasena, due to his immense appetite, was unable to observe the fasts of other Ekadashis throughout the year. Distressed, he shared this with Sage Veda Vyasa, who advised him to observe the strict fast of Nirjala Ekadashi during the Shukla Paksha of the month of Jyeshtha. It is believed that the merit gained from this single fast equals that of all twenty-four Ekadashi fasts of the year. Bhimasena observed this vrat with complete devotion, without consuming even water, and attained immense merit, strength, victory, and divine grace.
Observing this vrat leads to the complete destruction of sins, fulfillment of wishes, good health, long life, good fortune, and ultimately liberation (moksha). It is considered the most effective and result-giving Ekadashi.
Nirjala Ekadashi is observed every year on the 11th lunar day (Ekadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha (May–June).
