Background

Jivitputrika - Protection and long life of children by fasting and worshipping

Jivitputrika Vrat is on Sunday, 14th September, 2025. Jivitputrika Vrat is observed on Ashtami Tithi in Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month i.e. Pitru Paksha, which is also called Jitiya. According to mythological belief, this fast observed by mothers provides safety, happiness, good health and long life to the children.

This fast is observed without water for 36 hours from Saptami. By observing this fast, by the grace of Gandharvaraj Jimut, the mother never has to face the separation from her child. Jimut Vahan is worshipped in this fast. Mothers with sons should observe Jivitputrika Vrat for the happiness of their children and those who do not have children should observe it for getting children.
