Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha (Jaya Ekadashi)
Jaya Ekadashi is regarded as a highly powerful Ekadashi that grants liberation from sins and freedom from fear. According to a story described in the Padma Purana, in Indraloka there lived a Gandharva named Malyavan and his wife Pushpavati. Once, while performing music and dance, their concentration wavered, which angered Lord Indra. In his wrath, Indra cursed them to be born as Pisachas (ghoulish beings). The cursed couple wandered the earth in terrifying forms.
One day, they reached an ashram where sages were observing the vow of Jaya Ekadashi. Merely by the power of the merit (punya) generated from that Ekadashi vrat, their curse was lifted, and they regained their divine forms, returning to Indraloka.
Observing this vrat leads to the destruction of sins, removal of fear, inner peace, good fortune, and ultimately liberation (moksha).
Jaya Ekadashi is observed every year on the Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Magha, usually falling in January or February.
