Ashwin Krishna Paksha (Indira Ekadashi)
Indira Ekadashi is regarded as a highly auspicious Ekadashi that grants ancestral peace (Pitru Tarpan), destruction of sins, and liberation of the lineage. As it falls during Pitru Paksha, its spiritual merit is believed to multiply manifold. According to a story narrated in the Padma Purana, the father of King Indrasena of Mahishmati was suffering in the realm of ancestors due to certain karmic faults. One day, Sage Narada visited the king and advised him that by observing the Indira Ekadashi vrat with proper rituals and dedicating its merit to his ancestors, they would attain liberation. King Indrasena observed the fast with deep faith, and as a result, his father attained freedom from Pitru Loka.
Observing this vrat leads to satisfaction of ancestors, destruction of sins, peace and prosperity in the family, and opens the path toward liberation (moksha).
Indira Ekadashi is observed every year on the Ekadashi tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashwin, during Pitru Paksha, and holds great significance for the peace and liberation of ancestors.
