Ashadha Shukla Paksha (Devshayani Ekadashi)
Shree Vishnu Shayani Ekadashi, also known as Devshayani Ekadashi, marks the sacred beginning of the four-month period of Chaturmas. According to the Puranas, on this auspicious day Lord Vishnu enters Yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) on Sheshnag in the Ksheer Sagar (Ocean of Milk). On this occasion, the deities welcomed the Lord through yajna, charity, and fasting, praying for the protection of the universe during His divine rest.
Observing this vrat destroys accumulated sins and brings stability, good fortune, and peace into life. The merit earned through righteous deeds during Chaturmas multiplies manifold. This Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious for marriage, progeny, happiness, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, mental unrest is removed, and the path toward liberation (moksha) is illuminated.
Shree Vishnu Shayani Ekadashi (Devshayani Ekadashi) is observed every year on the Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashadha, usually falling in June or July.
