Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha (Achala Ekadashi)

Achala Ekadashi is described as the Ekadashi that grants righteousness (dharma), stability, and inexhaustible merit (akshaya punya). According to a story narrated in the Padma Purana, when King Harishchandra was undergoing immense suffering due to his unwavering commitment to truth and severe penance, Sage Gautama advised him to observe the fast of Achala Ekadashi. The king observed the vrat with complete faith and devotion. As a result, all his sins were destroyed, his sufferings came to an end, and he received divine support in upholding truth. Eventually, he regained his kingdom, honor, and dignity.

This vrat is considered highly meritorious as it destroys sins, brings mental peace, and opens the path to liberation (moksha).

Achala Ekadashi (also known as Apara Ekadashi) is observed every year during the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha (May–June), on the 11th lunar day after the new moon.
