Why People Donate Time & Money
Many of us might be living in a healthy family, but this is a sad truth, we cannot say that we are living in a healthy society. Why? Since our society is a mixture of ‘Haves and Have Nots’.
And it would be difficult to imagine a healthy society without those who at least intend to improve its condition through their generosity. And that’s why the power of giving and donation finds mention in the works of great people, leaders, and thinkers.
Further, many people give back to society due to personal reasons. Here are some of the reasons why people love their generosity and donate their time, money and also, sentiments.
A Sense of Overall Happiness
If you are involved in charitable causes believe that you are helping many social service organizations. They make a big difference to the lives of the poor, hungry, and the needy.
There are various studies showing people who donate to charity find themselves having an overall improved sense of happiness and satisfaction. Even a meager amount makes a big impact.
Vishwa Jagriti Mission runs various cost-efficient social programs for helping the marginalized. And many people enthusiastically take part in them to feel happy.
Further, this is a harsh truth that while our country is seeing rising incomes and a better lifestyle, that has been matched with growing income inequality and helplessness, especially amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In such times, the generosity of kind-hearted souls enables deprived people to feel a sense of hope and security.
This is also one of the key reasons why millions of people donate a small amount from their income regularly to support causes they believe in.
A Sense of Moral duty
Giving to charity also boosts personal values. It is believed that a feeling of social conscience is also one of the top reasons to donate money, material or time to any charitable organization.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers join Vishwa Jagriti Mission with a feeling to serve the poor and sick individuals. When asked, why they want to volunteer, about 60% cite ‘moral duty’ as a reason. They feel it’s their duty to use what they have to help and support others.
This sentiment is very much rooted in their personal values. It helps those who are marginalized, who cannot afford a simple meal for their family, and who are suffering due to lack of medical attention and medicines.
These volunteers act on a powerful feeling of responsibility and feel like they are living in a way that is true to their own beliefs which is beneficial for society as well.
A Sense of Good Parenting
Yes, this is also a great reason for many to donate. Through their humble efforts, many parents introduce their children to the importance of generosity for living a good life. Sharing the feeling of charity with kids shows innocent souls from a young age how they can make positive changes in their surroundings through small acts of kindness.
Also, it is in the nature of children to help others. Taking part in charitable causes nurtures their innate generosity and they grow up with a greater appreciation of what they have while having a better perspective of social realities.
That’s why many families have created a ‘Social Cause Box’ in their homes- like a Piggy Bank. In it all family members contribute including children. This is how these parents are inculcating the virtue of generosity in their children, which turns them into responsible adults eventually.
A Sense of Spreading Love
Right now, a large part of our society is becoming a victim of materialism. A majority of people are involved in fulfilling their own desires. They don’t care about others. They want to have good food, luxurious life, and personal well-being only. This is unfair. Man is a social animal and so it’s his duty to give it back to society.
A lot of people are craving love right now. It is an emotion that society severely lacks nowadays. And so many people take part in charitable causes to prove that love for mankind, love for others still exists. By taking care of others, they show that humanity is still present.
Every day, many good souls give a visit to Vishwa Jagriti Mission’s Old Age Homes. They donate their time and say they want to do it just for spreading love and make our older generations feel that they are not alone in their fight.
They also say, one day we will also grow old and we would expect our younger generations to give us a visit if we start living in an Old Age Home.
So, different people have different reasons to donate their time, money, and sentiments.
What’s yours?
